The roof is a complex element, it requires careful development at the design stage. I do not recommend building it yourself if you do not have such experience.
Roofing coverings. For the roof of a log house, metal tiles, corrugated sheets, standing seam roofing, flexible tiles, ondulin, composite tiles, slate, membrane roofing (PVC, EPDM, TPO), shingles, roofing felt, euro roofing felt, self-leveling roofing, acrylic glass, polycarbonate, cellular polycarbonate, fiberglass panels are used.
When choosing a covering, rely on the recommendations of the design documentation. If there is none, then the following materials are most often used:
- Metal tiles – sheet stamped painted metal, popular in private housing construction.
- Profiled sheeting – also known as corrugated sheet, or metal profile. Sheet material that is made of galvanized steel using the cold rolling method.
- Ondulin is a composite roofing plate made of cellulose, bitumen and cement fibers. It resembles corrugated slate in shape.
- Painted slate is a wave-shaped roofing material, does not make noise in the rain, does not require additional waterproofing and wind insulation, is affordable and looks good.
- Soft bituminous shingles are a roofing material based on fiberglass, modified bitumen and stone dressing. These materials have virtually zero water absorption, which eliminates corrosion and decay. The downside of this type of coating is that it becomes overgrown with moss in a humid climate.
Ceramic, slate, cement-sand tiles and concrete roofing are not used for timber houses. These are heavy and expensive materials that require detailed design calculations for the loads on the structure of the house and the foundation. They are more suitable for brick and concrete houses.
